Man dies after falling from bridge over the M60

A man has died after falling from a bridge over the M60.

Emergency crews - including an air ambulance - attended at the anticlockwise carriageway at junction 19 (Middleton) following the fall on Tuesday afternoon (March 10).

Police have now confirmed that a man in his 40s was pronounced dead at the scene.

His death is not being treated as suspicious, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said.

The road was closed shortly after 2.15pm as police and paramedics attended the scene.

Motorists in the area were warned to expect delays.

GMP have now confirmed details of the incident.

A spokesperson for the force said: “Shortly before 2.15pm on Tuesday 9 March 2021, police were called by colleagues at NWAS to reports of a man falling from a bridge on the M60 near junction 19.

“Officers attended and sadly, a man in his 40s was pronounced dead at the scene.

“His death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

A spokesman for the North West Ambulance Service confirmed that a road and air ambulance were sent to the scene following an initial call at 2.11pm on Tuesday, but did not take anyone to hospital.
