Man dies after falling from bridge on the M602 in Eccles

A man has died after falling from a bridge over the M602 in Eccles .

Emergency services were called to an incident on the eastbound carriageway near Gilda Brook roundabout on Sunday (March 1) morning.

Police, air ambulance and paramedics were called to the scene at around 9.14am, after reports a man had fallen from a bridge.

Greater Manchester Police have now confirmed a 60-year-old man died as a result of his injuries.

The M602 eastbound from junction one to junction two was closed for a number of hours on Sunday, as a result of the incident.

GMP say they are not treating the death as suspicious, and a file will be passed to the coroner.

In a previous statement, North West Motorway Police said officers were attending reports that a person had fallen from an over bridge.

A spokesperson said: "Police are on the scene at the incident on the Eastbound Carriageway at Gilda Brook on the M602.

"If you are about to set off please avoid the area.

"We will keep you updated - those stuck in the traffic behind the incident please wait instructions from police.

"Please do not breach the block."
