Man dies after falling from 17th-floor balcony in Adelaide CBD

The Central Adelaide Apartments in Grote Street.

Police say the death of a man who fell from a 17th-floor Adelaide balcony overnight was a terrible accident.

Patrols and paramedics were called to the 18-storey Central Adelaide Apartments at the corner of Grote and Morphett streets just before 1:00am, but could not save the 27-year-old.

Senior Constable Matt Brown said the man made a fatal decision.

"Police investigating the incident believe the man fell from the 17th floor balcony trying to gain access to an adjoining balcony," he said.

"There doesn't appear to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the incident."

The circumstances of the death are still being investigated.

Other people living in the apartment building were shocked to hear about the man's death this morning.

Rikaaz Khala said there were barriers between the apartment balconies.

"It's not an easy thing to do and a massive risk," he said.

"It's absolutely crazy for someone else to do something like that.

"You know people take risks like sports but not something in that sense to try out some things, it's really not acceptable."

Steven Tang lives on the 18th floor and said he could not imagine what the man was doing.

"It's so weird. It's crazy," he said.
