A man has died after suffering a medical episode while in custody at a police watchhouse in Brisbane.
The 65-year-old from Ellen Grove died on Friday after the episode at the Richlands Watchhouse on Wednesday, Queensland Police said in a statement.
Police rendered first aid before he was taken to Princess Alexandra Hospital where he underwent surgery.
The man had been remanded in custody after appearing in court on Monday, following his arrest on January 15 for alleged breach of domestic violence order offences.
He was awaiting transport to another facility when he suffered the episode, police said.
The circumstances surrounding the death are being investigated by the Ethical Standards Command on behalf of the coroner and the Crime and Corruption Commission has been notified.
