Man dies after 'drug-related incident' in Princes Street public toilets

A man has died following a "drug-related incident" in Princes Street's public toilets yesterday.

Emergency services rushed to scene at the West End toilets, opposite South Charlotte Street, at around 4pm yesterday evening (20 September).

It is understood officers were responding to reports of people "taking drugs in the toilets".

A Police Scotland spokesperson has now confirmed that a man was found unresponsive and was pronounced dead.

Police say his death is being treated as unexplained and enquiries are ongoing.

A woman who was also found at the scene was rushed to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary and remains in hospital.

A police cordon was in place for a number of hours last night following the incident.

Princes Street's westbound lane was also closed to traffic, leading to long delays and queuing traffic.
