Man dies after collapsing on New Year's Eve walk with wife and son in Lake District

A dad has died after he collapsed on a New Year’s Eve nature walk with his wife and their son.

The family were out walking the ridge to Ullock Pike, in the Lake District in Cumbria, on Saturday when the dad collapsed.

His son immediately began to perform CPR as they alerted emergency services, LancsLive reported.

Then at around 1:36pm, a Great North Air Ambulance Service helicopter landed close by.

It was closely followed by around 20 volunteers from Keswick Mountain Rescue Team.

Despite their best efforts, they were unable to save the man and he died at the scene.

A spokesperson for Keswick MRT said: "A husband, wife, and son were walking the ridge to Ullock Pike when the husband suddenly collapsed.

"CPR was immediately provided by the son and emergency services alerted.

"GNAAS helimed 58 landed close to the casualty and were followed shortly after by Keswick MRT.

"Sadly, despite the best efforts of the medical team the man could not be saved.

"Our thoughts and sympathies are with the man’s family and friends."

This was one of a number of tragedies that occured in and around the New Year’s.

Olivia Kolek was one of the Brits who tragically died, when she was hit by a car when on the phone to a friend.

She had been at Rowley Regis train station in Sandwell, heading into Birmingham city centre to party in the new year with friends.

At least six others died in road accidents in the UK and Ireland, and three children are currently in hospital.
