Man dies after car crashes off the A19 in County Durham

A man has died after a car crashed off the A19 in County Durham.

Durham Constabulary revealed that the driver, who was in his 50s, died after the vehicle left the road in the Cold Hesledon area just before 6.45pm on Friday.

The incident closed the northbound carriageway of the A19 between the A182 and the B1404 Seaton Lane while emergency services worked at the scene.

Police are now appealing for witnesses and are encouraging anyone with information to come forward.

A spokesperson from Durham Constabulary said: "Officers are keen to see any dash cam footage or speak to any motorists who have seen a silver Hyundai hatchback between 6.15pm and 6.45pm on Friday January 17 between Dalton Park and the A1018 slip road.

"Sadly the male driver, who was in his 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene."

Anyone with any information is asked to call Durham Constabulary’s collision investigation unit on 101, quoting incident reference number 350 of January 17.
