A man has died after being struck by a falling tree near a cemetery in Staffordshire.

The 58-year-old suffered a cardiac arrest and was pronounced dead at the scene despite the efforts of paramedics.

Staffordshire Police said officers were called by the ambulance service to a footpath off Eccleshall Road at 6.45am on Thursday.

A force spokesman said: “Sadly, paramedics were unable to save him and he was pronounced dead at the scene. At this time, it is believed he was struck by a falling tree.

“The family of the 58-year-old local man are aware.

“The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for HM Coroner.”

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We were called at 6.40am to a pathway next to the Eccleshall Road cemetery in Stafford.

“The caller reported a tree had fallen on a patient. Three ambulances and a paramedic officer attended.”
