A man has died after being run over by his own car outside his house in Carmarthenshire .
Arwyn Ward, who was 66, died four days after an incident which saw him become trapped beneath his car in the driveway of his home in the village of Glanamman.
Neighbours heard Mr Ward call for help and contacted the emergency services who rushed to the property in Maes Llewelyn, off Cwmamman Road, at around 8.45am on Monday, October 7.
Firefighters were able to release him from underneath the car with the use of specialist equipment.
He was given first aid outside the property before being taken to hospital by the Welsh Ambulance Service. However, police have now confirmed that he has died.
The exact circumstances surrounding what happened to Mr Ward are unclear, but one resident who lives in Maes Llewelyn said that following the incident “one of the neighbours turned the engine off and put the hand brake on”, while another said: “The car was in the reverse position going down the drive - how on earth it happened we don’t know.”
A spokeswoman for Dyfed-Powys Police said: “Officers were called to Maes Llewelyn in Glanamman at around 8.45am on Monday, October 7, to a report of a collision involving a single vehicle. A man was found to be trapped under the car, and was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
"Sadly. the man passed away on October 11."
HM Coroner for Carmarthenshire has confirmed that an inquest into Mr Ward's death has been opened and adjourned to a later date, while Dyfed-Powys Police have confirmed that his next of kin have been informed.
