Man dies after being rescued from canal at Maryhill

A man has died after he was rescued from a canal in the Maryhill area of Glasgow.

Earlier this week, Glasgow Live reported on the man being pulled from the canal by a quick-thinking member of the public on Monday evening.

The brave resident rescued him from the water and performed CPR before ambulance crews arrived.

However, police today confirmed the man has sadly died in hospital.

There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 9.15pm on Monday, 4 May, emergency services responded to a report of a concern for a man in the canal, near Firhill Road.

"The man was recovered from the water and taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary where he later died.

"There are no apparent suspicious circumstances and a report has been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."
