A 24-year-old man died after he was pulled Monday night from Monroe Harbor in Lake Michigan.

Two witnesses told investigators he jumped into the water about 9:15 p.m. near Monroe Street and Lake Shore Drive, Chicago police said. The man was pulled from the water by police and fire department divers.

He was taken in critical condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said. The Cook County medical examiner’s office hasn’t released details about his death.

Three other people have drowned this year in Monroe Harbor.

In 2020, at least 50 people have drowned in Lake Michigan, according to the Great Lake Surf Rescue Project, which tracks drownings.
