Man dies after being pulled from house fire in New Hartley

A man has died after firefighters pulled him from a burning home in Northumberland.

Crews were called out to the property in New Hartley shortly before 4.30am on Saturday after the fire broke out.

The male occupant was rescued from the house and firefighters on scene carried out CPR until paramedics arrived but sadly, he was pronounced dead.

A spokeswoman for Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service said: “Fire crews responded to a call at 4.27am on Seaburn View in New Hartley.

“Two crews from West Hartford attended along with two crews from Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service from Tynemouth station.

“Crews wearing breathing apparatus removed a male casualty from the property.

“However, despite sustained of fire service staff to resuscitate him, the casualty was pronounced dead by ambulance paramedics.

“The adjoining property was checked for fire spread but this was restricted to minor smoke damage.

“A joint investigation by Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service and Northumbria Police is being carried out to determine the cause of the fire.

“Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service are urging residents to check that their smoke detectors are in good working condition and to make escape plans.

“Crews are back in the area today giving advice and reassurance.”
