Man dies after being hit by tram in West Didsbury

A man has died after being hit by a tram in south Manchester.

Police and ambulance crews were called to Burton Road Metrolink stop in West Didsbury on Tuesday night.

A spokesman for GMP confirmed on Wednesday that a man in his 30s was pronounced dead at the scene.

The force said in a statement: "Police were called at 10.25pm on Tuesday to reports of concern for the welfare of a man on the tram track near to Burton Road tram stop.

"Emergency services attended and the man in his 30s was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

"It is believed a tram collided with the man.

"No arrests have been made.

"There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding his death."

Services on the East Didsbury line were partially suspended while police attended the scene.

No trams ran between St Werburgh's Road and East Didsbury for several hours.

A GMP spokesman confirmed on Wednesday that the man had died at the scene on Tuesday night.
