A man died after being struck by a train near a Liverpool railway station.
Emergency services, including three police vehicles and two ambulances, were called to Mossley Hill station yesterday evening (Wednesday).
A train with up to 40 passengers on board made an emergency stop at the station.
One witness said officers could be seen on the tracks with torches searching the scene.
Trains were suspended for more than two hours after the incident was reported by Northern Rail just after 6pm.
Services between Lime Street and Warrington Central were cancelled as police, ambulance and Network Rail response vehicles rushed to the scene near Rose Lane.
British Transport Police confirmed this morning a man had died following the incident.
A spokesperson said: "British Transport Police were called to Mossley Hill railway station, Merseyside, at 5.37pm yesterday (March 10) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
"Paramedics also attended, however sadly a man was pronounced dead at the scene.

"This incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
A bus replacement service was put in place before a relief crew arrived and the train began moving around 7.38pm.
The train eventually made its journey to Liverpool Lime Street station before passengers were allowed to disembark.
At 9.23pm, Northern posted on Twitter to say the incident had now ended and train services were allowed to resume.
