Man dies after being hit by Mercedes on M62

A man has died after being hit by a Mercedes on the M62.

Cheshire Police received a call at 9.30pm on Sunday, March 19, following reports of a crash on the M62 between junction eight (Burtonwood) and nine (Stump Cross) in Warrington. Once officers arrived at the scene they found a grey Mercedes X350 had crashed into a man.

The pedestrian, a 51-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene. The M62 was closed in both directions following the incident, with the road not reopening until 4am on Monday, March 20.

Enquiries in relation to the incident are underway.

A spokesperson from Cheshire Police said: "At around 9.30pm on Sunday 19 March, police were called to reports of a collision on the M62 between junction 8 and junction 9. Officers attended and found that a grey Mercedes X350 had collided with a pedestrian.

"Sadly, the pedestrian, 51-year-old man from Warrington, was pronounced dead at the scene."

Anyone who witnessed the collision or captured anything on CCTV or dashcam is asked to contact Cheshire Police on 101 quoting reference IML 1504176 of Sunday, March 19.
