Man dies after being hit by lorry on M4 shutting motorway as police surround scene

A man has tragically died after being hit by a lorry on the M4 near Cardiff.

The accident happened at around 3.45am on the westbound carriageway of the motorway between junctions 30 Cardiff Gate and 32 Coryton.

A spokeswoman told Wales Online the incident involved a Renault articulated HGV and a male pedestrian.

She added: "Sadly the man was declared deceased at scene and his family are being supported by a specially trained liaison officer."

The carriageway was shut in both directions for nearly four hours.

It remains closed westbound, but the eastbound carriageway re-opened around 7.30am.

The spokeswoman added: "Officers wish to thank members of the public who assisted at scene and for their patience during the road closures."

South Wales Police tweeted: "We are investigating a fatal road traffic collision on the M4’s westbound carriageway at about 3.45am this morning between junctions 30 and 32, Cardiff.

"The incident involved a Renault articulated HGV and a male pedestrian.

"Sadly the man was declared deceased at scene."

Police have cordoned off a road in Lisvane above the site of the accident on the M4.

The road is shut in both directions.

Detectives are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident or seen the vehicle or the pedestrian prior to the collision to contact 101 and quote occurrence number 2100005200.
