Man dies after being hit by lorry in Upminster despite efforts of off-duty police officer

A pedestrian has died after being hit by a lorry in Upminster, east London.

Police and paramedics were scrambled to the scene on the A127 at roughly 1.40pm on Friday.

Despite their efforts and those of the off-duty Met Police officer who also rushed to help the man, he died at the scene a short time later.

He is believed to be 48 years old.

Police were on Friday evening working to inform the man's next-of-kin, and advised drivers to avoid the scene.

A Met Police spokesperson said: "The lorry driver stopped at the scene and is helping police with their enquiries.

"A scene has been put in place and motorists are advised to avoid the area."
