Man dies after being hit by car in horror M50 crash in Dublin

A man has died after being hit by a car in a horror crash on Dublin's M50.

The incident happened shortly before midnight last night on the northbound side of the motorway just before Junction 5 at Finglas.

A pedestrian, who was in his 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Nobody else was injured in the collision.

A garda spokesman said: "Gardaí attended the scene of a fatal road traffic collision involving a car and a pedestrian that occurred at approximately 11:55pm on Sunday, 29th November, 2020, on the M50 Northbound before the Junction 5 Finglas exit.

"The pedestrian, a man in his 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene. His body has since been taken to the City Morgue where a post mortem will be conducted at a later date.

"No other injuries to persons was reported.

"The road has fully re-opened after being closed for a period of time for a technical examination by Forensic Collision Investigators.

"Gardaí at Finglas are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward. Gardaí are also appealing for any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area at the time to make this footage available to Gardaí.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact Finglas Garda Station on 01 666 7500, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station."

An AA Roadwatch spokesman added: "The M50 has reopened both ways between J6 Blanchardstown and J5 Finglas following a serious incident overnight. Delays remain northbound on approach to J6."
