Man dies after being hit by car in east Manchester

A man has died after being hit by a car in east Manchester.

The 46 year-old was struck by a blue Seat Ibiza at the junction of Ashton New Road and Clayton Street in Clayton shortly before 7am this morning (Easter Sunday).

Police and paramedics raced to the scene following a call at 6.50am.

The man was taken to hospital, where he was sadly pronounced, Greater Manchester Police have said.

The driver of the Seat Ibiza remained at the scene to assist officers.

Officers are currently trying to locate the man's next of kin (Vincent Cole)

No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing, the force added.

Sergeant Matthew Waggett of GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "First and foremost, our thoughts are very much with family and loved ones of the man who has sadly died this morning.

"Enquiries are currently ongoing to locate his next of kin.

"We appealing to anyone who may have been in the area at the time of this collision to come forward and speak with police.

"We're particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the collision or is in possession of dash-cam footage from the area at the time."

The road remained closed between the junctions for North Road and Canberra Street by 1.30pm.

Diversions were put place.

Pictures from the scene showed a badly-damaged Seat Ibiza in the centre of the road, close to The Grove Inn pub.
