Man dies after being hit by car as he crossed the road

A 76-year-old man has died after being hit by a car in Norris Green earlier this week.

Just before 7pm on Tuesday (May 18), police and the ambulance service were called to Townsend Avenue near the junction with Norwyn Road, to reports of a collision between a Citroen C3 and a pedestrian.

A large road closure was put in place as paramedics attended to the casualty.

The critically injured man was taken to hospital but sadly died yesterday (Thursday, May 20).

His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.

The driver of the car stopped at the scene and is assisting with enquiries.

"If you witnessed the collision, or have any CCTV or dashcam footage from the Townsend Avenue area, please get in touch as it may assist our enquiries."
