Man dies after being found unconscious in Mardyke Walk in Cork city

A man has died after he was found unconscious in the Mardyke Walk area of Cork city.

Gardai were called to the scene following reports of a fire and a man lying unconscious some time after midnight on Sunday.

The injured man was taken to Cork University Hospital around 1am where he later passed away.

Officers have now launched an investigation and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

A garda spokesperson said: "The State Pathologist has been notified and the scene is currently preserved. The post mortem is due to take place this morning."

Gardaí are appealing for any persons who were in Mardyke Walk area between 12 midnight and 1am this morning and who may have witnessed any activity in the area or any motorists who may have passed through Mardyke Walk around these times and have dashcam footage to contact Anglesea Garda Station on 021  4522000, The Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
