A spokesperson for GMP said it is not believed there are any suspicious circumstances and a file will be prepared for the coroner.

Eyewitnesses reported armed police in the area but it is understood this was simply because they happened to be the police closest resource.

GMP said in a statement: "At around 10:50 am , police officers were called to a report of a semi-conscious male in Heaton Park.

"Upon arrival members of the public had begun first aid."

"NWAS also attended the scene and the male was taken to hospital.

"Sadly the male died at hospital a short time later.

"There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances and report has been made for HM Coroner."
