Man dies after 'being dragged under car for some distance' in hit-and-run

A young man has died he was dragged under a car "for some distance" in a horror hit-and-run in the early morning hours.

Police are hunting a driver who did not stop at the scene after the man was hit by a vehicle Chessington, south-west London.

The victim, believed to be 25, was "dragged under the car for some distance" as the driver fled.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene after officers and paramedics were called shortly after 12.10am on Friday.

There have been no arrests and the car has not been located, a Met Police spokesperson said.

Police believe they know the identity of the man who died.

The spokesperson said: "Detectives are appealing for information and witnesses after a car failed to stop having collided with a man in Chessington.

"Police were called to a car in collision with a man in Moor Lane, Chessington at 12.13am on Friday, 26 July.

"The driver did not stop and the man was dragged under the car for some distance.

"Officers attended along with London Ambulance Service.

"The man, believed to be aged 25 years, was pronounced dead in Moor Lane.

"Police believe they know the man’s identity and his next of kin have been informed. Formal identification and a post-mortem examination will be arranged in due course.

"There has been no arrest.

"Enquiries are underway to establish the full circumstances.

"The car remains outstanding."
