Man dies after being crushed by machinery on Darwin worksite

NT WorkSafe inspectors assess the scene where a man was killed in Berrimah on Monday.

A 30-year-old Northern Territory man has died after being crushed by machinery in Darwin.

It is believed the man was at a worksite on Wishart Road in Tivendale when he was fatally injured about 3:00pm on Monday.

He had died by the time an ambulance arrived.

NT Police said the man's family, who live in Katherine, had been notified.

A spokesman said it "appeared to be a tragic accident" and an investigation was ongoing.

NT WorkSafe inspectors arrived at the scene this morning after the police cleared the scene last night.

The investigators appeared to be assessing a excavator or digger loaded on to the back of a truck, with crime scene tape still surrounding some of the area.

The ABC understands when WorkSafe staff arrived at the scene, fellow employees were in shock.

Details of the business and the circumstances of the death are still being worked through with an update expected this afternoon.

It comes after a man was killed in an electrical accident at the Tennant Creek Fire Station in February.

That month another Darwin man was critically injured when a 1.5-tonne electrical switchboard fell on him during the construction site of the new Palmerston Police Station.
