Man dies after being being pulled from the sea at popular beach during heatwave

A man has died after being pulled from the sea at Clacton beach in Essex.

Emergency services were called to Clacton Pier just after 10.30am this morning.

Officers from Essex Police attended the scene following reports that a body had been found in the water.

An Essex and Herts Air Ambulance touched down on the beach this morning to offer assistance at the scene, Essex Live reports.

A man believed to be in his 60s was removed from the water and pronounced dead.

His death is being treated as unexplained, but not suspicious.

In a statement, Essex Police told Mirror Online:

"We were called just after 10:30 today, Monday 10 August, after reports that a man in his 60s had been found just off Clacton Pier in the water.

He was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

We are treating this as unexplained but not suspicious at this stage.

Enquires are ongoing."

This latest incident comes as the RNLI has issued a warning to beachgoers using inflatables at sea after a series of multiple rescues.

There were five separate call-outs along Bournemouth beach in Dorset on Sunday involving children as young as seven years old who got caught out by a strong off-shore wind.

In the most serious incident, a teenage girl and her father were rescued 700 yards off Bournemouth pier in fading light.

They had fallen off their inflatable and spent 40 minutes treading water before being plucked out of the sea by a lifeboat crew.

A police helicopter which was also involved in the rescue dropped floating devices for them to hold on to before Poole Lifeboat arrived.

Both the father and daughter were suffering from hypothermia and were in a 'distressed' state.

A woman also died following a collision between a water bike and a boat off Anglesey.
