A man has died in hospital after allegedly assaulting three people.
The incident happened at around midday on Monday, May 13 in Lanesborough, Co Longford.
Gardai said a young man, in his 20s, allegedly assaulted two elderly men in their 70s and 80s and a woman in her 50s.
They were taken to hospital for treatment, while the young man was taken to University Hospital Galway, where he has since passed away.
A post-mortem examination is due to be carried out this evening.
A Garda spokeswoman told the Irish Mirror: "Gardai are investigating a serious assault that occurred in Lanesboro Co Longford on the 13th May 2019.
"A man in his 20s allegedly assaulted two men, 70s and 80s, and a woman in her 50s.
"All received non life threatening injuries and were taken to hospital.
"The man in his 20s was taken to University Hospital Galway and has since passed away.
"A post-mortem is due to be carried out later today."
