A man has died after "acting erratically" while detained in a police vehicle north of Brisbane.

Queensland Police officers were responding to reports of a disturbance at Beachmere on Friday when they saw the 37-year-old.

He was detained after acting erratically and officers placed him in the back of their vehicle.

"The man continued to act increasingly erratic, prompting officers to then remove the man from the vehicle and provide him medical assistance," a police statement said.

The man was taken to Caboolture Hospital where he later died.

"The state coroner has been advised and the ethical standards command is investigating," the police statement said.
