Man describes 'shocking' crash which left his Skoda Octavia vRS written off just 3 days after buying it

A man has described the moment his newly purchased car was written off in a "shocking" crash at a junction near Chilwell Retail Park.

Dan Ross, a finance broker from Nottingham, had just pulled out into the junction with Barton Lane upon a green light when he says the collision with the other vehicle happened.

His £16,000 Skoda Octavia vRS was completely damaged in the crash during which the other vehicle went through barriers leading to the McDonald's restaurant and drive-thru.

Mr Ross told Nottinghamshire Live: "I was heading to the village gym, the lights had turned green for me so I had gone across the crossroads."

It was at that point the the collision happened.

Mr Ross added: "When I got out of the car I was in complete shock.

"I've gone self-employed so I do not have a company car anymore. I had bought [the Skoda] for myself, and then this happened.

"It was in lovely nick. It was a safe car and it did it's job protecting me inside.

"It has been frustrating because it was my only car, it's not ideal."

Mr Ross is now appealing for anyone who may have seen the incident to come forward to help determine the circumstances.

He bought the Skoda second hand just before the weekend on Friday, July 31.

Pictures from the scene show the black Skoda's front end badly damaged and another vehicle with its front wheel hanging off near the McDonald's restaurant.

Nottinghamshire Police says two cars were involved in the crash which happened at around 8am on Monday August 3.

Nottinghamshire Police, East Midlands Ambulance Service and both Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service attended the incident.

A spokesman for the force said: "Officers were called to a two car collision at around 8am in Nottingham Road, Chilwell.

"A car had gone through some barriers near to the retail park. One person suffered minor injuries to their leg.

"No arrests have been made."

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service added: "Long Eaton Blue from Derbyshire FRS attended an RTC involving two vehicles on Chilwell Retail Park, Barton Lane.

"Firefighters made the scene safe. EMAS attended for one male with slight injuries and Notts Police also attended."
