Man denies murdering Sydney inmate

Three men will stand trial accused of murdering an inmate at Sydney's Peaklea prison. (AAP)

A man has pleaded not guilty to murdering a prisoner at a Sydney jail, while two others have denied helping the alleged assailant.

All three were arraigned in the NSW Supreme Court on Friday when Justice Robert Allan Hulme set their trial down for June 6.

Emmett Raymond Sheard pleaded not guilty to the stabbing murder of 33-year-old Michael Black at Parklea Correctional Centre on April 22, 2020.

He reportedly had been waiting in a common area to appear via audio-visual link for a matter before Wollongong Local Court.

Luke Anthony Welford and Matthew Ronald Bennis pleaded not guilty to being an accessory after the fact.

They allegedly did "receive, harbour, maintain and assist" Sheard after he wounded Black with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
