Man denies murder after mum's body found in woodland

A man has denied murdering a mum-of-two who was reported missing a week before her body was found.

Katie Kenyon, from Burnley, was last seen getting into a van in Padiham, Lancashire on April 22. A missing persons investigation was launched with officers from Lancashire Police spending seven days searching for the 33-year-old.

It is believed she entered a Ford Transit van which left Burnley and headed towards Bolton-by-Bowland. After extensive searches, officers confirmed her body had been found in the Forest of Bowland on April 29.

A post-mortem examination carried out on May 1 concluded she died from head injuries.

Members of Katie's family sat in the public gallery to see Burfield enter his plea. The Honorary Recorder of Preston, Judge Robert Altham, confirmed the trial will take place on November 14, 2022, Lancs Live reports.

Burfield was remanded in custody and told he must attend the trial at Preston Crown Court in November.
