Man denies Fiesta 'terror attack' outside Parliament

An alleged terrorist has denied trying to kill cyclists and police officers outside the Houses of Parliament by running them over with a Ford Fiesta.

Salih Khater, 29, is accused of deliberately swerving into several people before crashing the car into barriers in Westminster just after 7.30am on August 14.

Appearing via videolink from HMP Belmarsh, Sudanese-born Khater pleaded not guilty to two attempted murder charges and two alternative counts of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm.

The court heard all the charges against Khater are said to be "terror-related allegations".

Khater, who lives in Birmingham, was arrested at the scene of the alleged attack after crashing the Ford Fiesta.

He was remanded in custody today by Mr Justice Sweeney until a two-week trial starting on June 24.

The judge agreed to delay the trial, which was originally scheduled for next month.
