Man defends woman being racially abused on bus from Eldon Square to Cowgate

Police are searching for a key witness who defended a woman who was being racially abused on a bus.

It was reported that at 6:45pm on September 9, a woman was subjected to verbal abuse on the x47 bus travelling from Eldon Square to Cowgate.

The incident has left the victim feeling "ostracised and upset", police said.

An investigation was launched and now officers are hoping to trace the man in this image who they say saw the incident and helped defend the victim.

PC Dave Bowley from Northumbria Police said “This incident has left a woman feeling ostracised and upset after being subjected to racial abuse.

"We take these incidents very seriously and are determined to make sure this kind of behaviour is dealt with.

"There is no place for racism in our city and we won’t tolerate it.”

The man, or anyone who knows him should contact Police on 101 quoting log 261 090919 or report anonymously to independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
