A man was killed in a head-on crash Tuesday in south suburban Kankakee County.
Lawrence R. Henitz, 59, was driving north in a 2004 Chevrolet Impala shortly after 6 a.m. in the 7500 block of North U.S. Route 45 in Manteno, according to a statement from Illinois State Police.
As he tried to pass someone, his Impala crashed head-on into a southbound 2012 Impala, police said.
Henitz, who lived in Bourbonnais, was dead at the scene, according to police. The 22-year-old Joliet man driving the other car was taken to a hospital with injuries.
The crash remains under investigation by state police.
