Man dead and woman fighting for life after fire breaks out at house in Fife

A man has died and a woman is fighting for her life in hospital following a fire at a house in Fife.

The blaze started shortly before 6am in Oakley village near Dunfermline.

Police confirmed the fire had been fatal and the woman is said to be in a critical condition at the Victoria Hospital in Kikcaldy.

A fire service spokesperson told the Daily Record: "We were alerted at 5.52am on Saturday 24 August to reports of a fire within a two-storey dwelling in Oakley in Fife.

"Operations control mobilised a number of resources to Thorn Tree Place and firefighters remain in attendance."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Police in Fife responded to reports of a fire in Thorn Tree Place, Oakley, at around 6am on Saturday 24 August.

"As a result of this incident, one man sadly died and a woman has been taken to Victoria Hospital in a critical condition.

"Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding this fire."
