ONE man has died and another been rushed to hospital after a light aircraft crash in East Lothian.

Police said that they had been called to reports of a plane crash in the East Fortune area at around 4.55pm on Thursday.

Officers raced to the incident but the pilot of the aircraft was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man, who has not been named, was 40 and his next of kin have been made aware, police said.

A second man, 42, was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh where he is described as being in a “critical condition”.

Police Scotland added: “Enquiries remain ongoing and the Air Accident Investigation Branch (AAIB) has been notified.”
