Man dead after suspicious unit fire at Woody Point

Police are treating the fatal blaze as suspicious.

A man has died and a crime scene has been set up after a fire at a unit complex on the Redcliffe peninsula this morning.

Emergency services were called to the blaze just before 6:30am at Oxley Avenue in Woody Point.

"On arrival we located a [second-floor] unit that was fully involved, front to back, floor to ceiling," Queensland Fire and Emergency Services' Wayne Parry said.

"Unfortunately within one and a half minutes of primary search a person was located deceased."

Mr Parry said a report into the fire will be prepared after a full investigation

"It's under investigation, we've got specialist people here now."

Inspector Craig White said police are treating the fire as suspicious.

"Queensland Fire and Emergency Service investigators and police detectives are currently investigating the cause of the fire," Inspector White said.

"It's a terrible tragedy for the loss of any life.

"There's also another three or four occupants of next door units that are also now displaced from their own home."

Other residents are expected to give statements to the police in the coming hours.
