Man dead after police respond to concern for welfare

Emergency services were rushed to Tyldesley early this morning following concerns for the welfare of a man.

Police officers were scrambled to Lime Street at 5.45am, with an advanced paramedic also attending the scene shortly after.

A577 Elliott Street was closed off for around two hours, between Shuttle Street and Astley Street, while emergency services were in the area.

A man in his 80s was pronounced dead at the scene. There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: "At around 5.45am on Monday 14 December 2020, police received a report of concern for the welfare of a man on Lime Street, Tyldesley.

"Emergency services attended and a man in his 80s was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin has been informed.

"There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.

"Enquiries are ongoing."

A North West Ambulance Service spokesman added: "We were called at 6.08am, an ambulance and an advanced paramedic attended."
