Man dead after being pulled from River Clyde as another rushed to hospital

A man has died after being pulled from the River Clyde with another rushed to hospital following a huge emergency response in the city centre.

Police, ambulances and the fire service raced to the water near the City Union Bridge and the City of Glasgow College Marine Skills Centre at around 6.40pm this evening.

A man was pulled from the water by another male which sparked the response, the Daily Record reports.

The 49-year-old tragically died at the scene, while the other male, 32, was taken to hospital to be checked over.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We received a report of concern for a man seen in the River Clyde in Glasgow around 6.40pm on Wednesday, 26 May, 2021.

"Emergency services attended and a 49-year-old man was recovered from the water.

"He was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

"A second man, aged 32, who entered the water to assist, has been taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary as a precaution.

"Enquiries into the incident are ongoing."

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they had attended but said it was a police issue.
