Man dead after Aurora shooting, crash: police

A man died after being shot and crashing a vehicle into a fence Sunday near west suburban Aurora.

Authorities were called at 7:55 p.m. for reports of a vehicle crashed into a fence near Dearborn Avenue and Beckwith Street in unincorporated Aurora Township, according to a statement from the Kane County sheriff’s office.

Investigators learned that the driver, a 19-year-old man, had been shot before the crash, the sheriff’s office said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

His identity has not been released.

A 20-year-old man who was a passenger in the vehicle was taken to a hospital to be treated for minor injuries caused by the crash, the sheriff’s office said.

The motive for the shooting is unknown and no suspect information is available, authorities said. The case remains under investigation by sheriff’s detectives and members of the Kane County Major Crimes Task Force.
