Refugees on Manus Island say two men have been seriously injured in separate armed robberies overnight.
A 27-year-old Sudanese refugee had his leg cut with a machete when men broke into a guesthouse he was at in the main town of Lorengau.
In a separate incident, a 27-year-old Iranian asylum seeker had his wrist cut with a knife when he was attacked and robbed on the street in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Both men are in the Lorengau Hospital, but say their injuries require more specialised treatment.
The refugees on Manus Island are being encouraged to move permanently to the town, as the detention centre closes down, but they say it is not safe for them because of attacks like this.
Sudanese refugee Abdul Azis Adam, a friend of the man whose leg was cut, told the ABC Manus Island "is getting worse".
"Everyone is worried that this place is going to be shut down so they are taking precautions like robbing people and … causing a lot of damage to them," he said.
