Gardai rushed to the scene of a fight after a man was assaulted outside a south Dublin supermarket.
The incident happened at a store in Ringsend at around 8pm on Saturday evening.
The victim, in his 50s, was cut in the face after his assailant hit him with what is understood to be part of a belt buckle.
The shop closed after the incident and remained closed for the rest of the night, Dublin Live reports.
Staff remained inside the store but would not make any comment.
It’s understood the victim got stitches and is otherwise OK.
Locals were shocked at the attack, which allegedly happened after the victim went to protect his daughter from the other man.
A Garda spokeswoman said in a statement: "Gardaí are investigating reports of a disturbance outside a retail premises on Fitzwilliam Street, Ringsend, Dublin 4 yesterday 18 January 2020 at approximately 7.50pm.
"No arrests have been made. Investigations ongoing."
