Man crushed to death by car after jack holding it up 'fails'

A man was crushed to death when the car he was working underneath fell on top of him when a jack collapsed.

The man, in his 60s, was carrying out repairs on his vehicle in Wythenshawe, Manchester when the piece of equipment failed, Manchester Evening News reports .

Emergency services were dispatched to the scene at 5.15pm yesterday evening, but he could not be saved.

Police confirmed he was died after an "equipment failure".

A private ambulance was spotted outside the property in the Poundswick area of south Manchester last night.

The next of kin and family have now been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

Police have ruled out any foul play or third party involvement.

A GMP spokesman said: "At around 5:15pm this evening police and paramedics were called to Chesham Avenue in Wythenshawe.

"A man was working on his own car when the equipment failed and unfortunately he has died at the scene.

"There are no suspicious circumstances."
