A 56-year-old man was critically hurt Sunday when his all-terrain vehicle crashed and rolled over in north suburban unincorporated Zion.

He was driving the ATV west on 17th Street, east of Sheridan Road, about 3 p.m. when he veered right for an unknown reason and left the road, the Lake County sheriff’s office said in a statement.

The ATV hit an embankment and rolled over, ejecting the driver, the sheriff’s office said. He was taken to Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with significant injuries. The sheriff’s office said he was not wearing a helmet during the crash.

The sheriff’s office said the crash remains under investigation.
