Man critical in hospital after being found with head injury on Cork city street as two arrested

A man is in a critical condition in hospital tonight after being found on a street with head injuries.

Gardai are appealing for witnesses following a serious assault incident in Cork city yesterday, Thursday, November 4.

Following reports of a disturbance, shortly before 9pm gardai and emergency services attended the scene on Lower Glanmire Road, where a man in his mid-40s was found with an apparent head injury.

He was taken by ambulance to Cork University Hospital, where his condition is understood to be critical today.

A man and woman, both aged in their late 20s, have since been arrested and are currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at the Bridewell and Gurranabraher Garda Stations, gardai said.

They added that a "comprehensive" forensic examination of the scene has now been completed and an incident room has been established at Mayfield Garda Station.

Investigating gardai are appealing for witnesses to come forward and are also appealing to anyone with camera footage to make it available to them.

Gardai added in a statement: "The investigation is ongoing and further updates will follow."
