Man critical in hospital after A40 crash between car and tractor outside Carmarthen

A man is in a critical condition in hospital after a serious crash between a car and a tractor.

The collision happened shortly after 12am on Friday morning on the westbound side of the A40 outside Carmarthen , and it's understood that one of the vehicles crashed through the central reservation.

A stretch of the dual carriageway between St Clears and the Meidrim junction was closed in both directions for almost eight hours, with the westbound carriageway re-opening just before 8am and the eastbound stretch some 15 minutes later.

The crash caused huge delays in the area early this morning, with a diversion in place through the village of Bancyfelin.

If you come across a crash:

Police and ambulance personnel dashed to the scene and two men - the driver and passenger of the car - were taken to Glangwili Hospital in Carmarthen.

One of the men is in a critical but stable condition.

Police are now appealing for information about the crash and are asking anyone who witnessed it to contact them by calling 101.
