One fisherman dead, two hospitalised after boat capsizes in WA

A 78-year-old Rockingham man has died after the boat he was on board capsized off the coast of Leeman, 250 kilometres north of Perth.

Two other fishermen in their 60s who had also been aboard the vessel were rescued Saturday afternoon about 1:00pm when they were spotted by a passer-by.

It is understood they had spent several hours in the water and were taken to hospital upon arriving back to shore, where they were treated for hypothermia.

The alarm was raised that the third man was still at sea and a large-scale search was launched to locate him.

He was found by a Leeman Sea Search & Rescue Group vessel but could not be resuscitated.

Several vessels took part in the search coordinated by WA Water Police.

An Australian Maritime Safety Authority jet aircraft was also deployed from Perth.
