A man has died after being shot by a Western Australia Police officer at his property at Mooliabeenee, about 90 kilometres north of Perth.
The man, 33, was shot after a confrontation with officers. A knife was later recovered from the scene.
He was taken to St John of God Hospital in Midland before being pronounced dead.
WA Police Commissioner Chris Dawson said two officers were called to the property, about 14 kilometres from Gingin, about 2:45pm on Thursday.
"Police had been called there by family living on that property," he said.
"When police arrived, several members of the family were talking to police.
"And they were confronted with a situation where a man was in a confrontation with police.
"One police officer from Gingin police station, after the confrontation, fired a single shot from his service-issue pistol."
Commissioner Dawson said first aid was immediately applied by officers and family members, before the man was taken to hospital.
"Sadly and tragically, the man, although being given first aid and was taken to Midland Hospital, sadly passed away," he said.
"We offer our sympathy and condolences for the family of the deceased man."
The police internal affairs unit and the homicide squad are investigating, and the death will also be examined by the WA coroner.
