Man crashes car after drink driving, decides to hide from the police in a nativity scene

A man suspected of drink-driving has tried to escape police by hiding in a nativity scene.

After crashing his Mini Cooper through the metal barriers of the A659, just outside of Tadcaster, North Yorkshire, the man attempted to hide from police in a large shed housing a nativity scene.

North Yorkshire Police confirmed they were able to locate the suspect, who was found hiding in the hay of a nativity scene, before posting a photo of the crash on Twitter.

Many took to Twitter to talk about the man’s getaway plan.

The Department of Transport has recently released a ‘Think!’ campaign targeting those who are likely to drive after a few drinks. Research suggests that one in 10 people would consider drink-driving.

“The combined efforts to tackle those who choose to drink and drive have been successful over the years,” Road Safety GB spokesperson, Liz Brooker, told The Telegraph.

“But some people still think of a drink-driver as someone who drinks copious amounts and gets in the car.

“They don’t realise that they could be a drink driver too, by having a small amount to drink and taking to the road."
