A man was convicted Wednesday of robbing an ATM technician at gunpoint in 2018 at a bank in Little Village on the Southwest Side.
A jury found 35-year-old Ivan Parker guilty of one count of robbery, according to a statement from the U.S. Attorney’s office for the Northern District of Illinois.
About 7 a.m. July 27, 2018, the technician was loading cash into an ATM inside a Chase Bank branch in the 3800 block of West 26th Street when Parker pointed a gun to their head, prosecutors said.
The technician tried to push the gun away and a struggle ensued, prosecutors said. Parker used pepper spray on the technician before snatching a cash bag and running off.
He spent the $106,335 he stole on a Buick sedan, jewelry, furniture, a television and a PlayStation console, prosecutors said. He was arrested about a month after the robbery.
Parker’s sentencing hearing was scheduled for May 27, 2020, and he faces up to 20 years in prison, prosecutors said.
