Resident comes home to find bullet holes in their front door

A resident came home to find shots had been fired through their front door.

The person, who lives on Stalmine Road, Rice Lane, returned home at around 5.45pm on Sunday, April 30 to find damage to the front door. Police and firearms officers attended and confirmed that the damage was caused by a shotgun being fired.

Detectives believe that the shooting had happened hours earlier, at around 3am. Witnesses claimed to have seen four men outside the house when the shots were fired.

The suspects then ran off towards Stalmine Gardens. No-one was in the property at the time of the incident. A large cordon was in place today, May 1, with multiple police cars and officers.

One person told the ECHO that he heard what sounded like a car revving outside at the time of the incident. He said it was "only a matter of time" that something like this was going to happen.

Another woman told the ECHO there had been "trouble" in the road before and said one house had their "windows smashed in" recently. One man was seen by the ECHO being placed into the back of a police van at around 9am.

Merseyside Police has not confirmed whether anyone has been arrested in connection with the incident.

People within the cordon were asked to sign in and out if they wanted to leave or enter this morning. They were asked to give their full name, date of birth and a contact number to officers. Detectives were also searching a nearby alleyway.

Fingertip searches were also carried out by officers and they were seen combing the portion of Stalmine Road which was cordoned off.

Detective Chief Inspector Paul Parry, said: "The investigation is in the very early stages as we look to establish the circumstances of what happened. While no injuries have been reported, discharging a firearm in a residential area is extremely reckless and dangerous.

"I would like to reassure anyone living in the area that our officers are committed to finding the people who are responsible and bringing them to justice to make our region a safer place to live. We are relentless in our approach to any person involved in the use of, possession of, and storage of firearms, and we will pursue anyone involved in this type of criminality."
